About Flyball |
We are a competitive but family oriented team that trains out of Ottawa, Ontario. We are competitive in the racing lanes but also love the social aspect of the sport, every tournament is an event and we try to make the most of it. We love a good road trip! We compete all over Ontario and into the United States, one of the reasons why our name is Crossing Borders! We ran our personal best time of 15.847 seconds in May 2017 at the May Madness UFLI tournament in Winchester, Ontario. We are also very proud that during our first year as a team, in October 2016, we traveled to St. Louis, Missouri and won our division at the UFLI Tournament of Champions! We welcome all breeds on our team from Chihuahuas to Huskies, we also have multiple rescue dogs who excel at the sport. We may be small, but we are mighty. We are currently 7 people and 15 dogs on the team.

Flyball is a dog sport where 2 teams of 4 dogs compete in a relay race. They race against each other over 4 jumps, to a spring loaded box and back over the 4 jumps to the handler. The box releases a tennis ball as the dog does a "swimmers turn" on the box and the dog must carry the ball back across the start finish line. Each dog must return its ball all the way across the start line before the next dog crosses. If the ball is dropped or the next dog crosses too soon, a penalty is applied and the heat is considered incomplete. The first team to have all four dogs cross the finish line with no mistakes wins the heat.
Still can't envision what it looks like? Check out this great video made by Dave Strauss of a tournament we attended in March of 2017. Many CBFT dogs & handlers in it! |
